It's the home stretch of the 2016-17 OCAA women's volleyball season and the Niagara Knights sit in second place in the OCAA West Division with a record of 11-3. The Knights will host the Fanshawe Falcons (8-5, 4th OCAA West) on Thursday night in what is shaping up to be a key matchup for both teams.
Heading into the February 2nd match, the injury riddled Knights have lost their last two games. The team is looking to jump back into the win column against their London-based division rivals. Fanshawe meanwhile will be looking to continue their winning ways and keep pace with the top teams in the West Division.
The Knights will be led by second year standout Jordan Koslowski. The five-foot-eleven outside hitter has been outstanding for the Knights this season. The Hamilton native is averaging an OCAA West Division best 4.3 points-per-set. On the defensive side of the ball the Knights will look to ball hawking libero Kennisis Vansoelen (Orangevill) who is battling for the OCAA lead in digs (173).
Fanshawe will counter with a high scorer outside hitter of their own in recent addition Meghan Morelli. Since joining the team at the mid-season break, Morelli is averaging a dominant 6.0 points-per-set.
The difference in the late season matchup could come down to the service game. Niagara currently leads the OCAA in service aces with 154. Four members of Knights' current roster in Koslowski (31), Bailey Davis (26), Sahara Aburaneh (16), and Linnea Davis (15) have more than 15 aces this season. The Falcons meanwhile have committed a league low 19 service reception errors this season.
First serve for the Thursday, February 2nd matchup is set for 6:00pm. Admission is free for all Niagara College students and those under the age of 18. Other members of the community can purchase tickets at the door for $5.00. For those unable to be in attendance, the game will be live streamed via www.goknigvhts.ca/watchlive.
