Murdoch and Hylton named Athletes of the Week

Female Athlete of the Week – Brooke-Lyn Murdoch, Women’s Basketball

For the fourth time this season Brooke-Lyn Murdoch of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been named athlete of the week.

Murdoch was fantastic during the Knights 1-1 split against the CCAA No.1 ranked Humber Hawks and Sheridan Bruins during a pair of games last week.

Against the Hawks, Murdoch was given the unenviable task of defending 2015-16 CCAA player of the year Ceejay Nofuente. The Welland Native held the OCAA all-time scoring leader to a meager 14 points (Nofuente’s second lowest total of the season). Murdoch also added eight points, four rebounds, and three assists.

During the Knights January 27th victory over the Bruins, Murdoch was outstanding. Despite playing just 26 minutes, the Jean Vanier graduate finished with a game high 24 points, while also adding four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Murdoch and the rest of the 8-5 Knights will head north for pair of road games against the Sault College Cougars on February 4 and 5th.

Male Athlete of the Week – Lequan Hylton, Men’s Basketball

Lequan Hylton of the Niagara College men’s basketball program has been named this week’s male athlete of the week.  Last week, against a pair of top-eight CCAA ranked opponents, Hylton (Mississauga) average 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

During the Knights January 25th road victory over the No. 7 ranked Humber Hawks, Hylton was the catalyst for the Knights. The third-year guard played a team high 33 minutes, and shot a red hot 55% from the floor finishing with 25 points, just a point shy of his season best effort.

Against the CCAA’s No. 1 Ranked Bruins on January 27th Hylton was equally impressive, shooting 8/14 to finish with a game high 23 points. The Knights would lose the back-an-forth affair 103-96.

The Knights now sit in second place in the Ultra-competitive OCAA West Division with a record of 9-2. Up next the team will travel to north the Sault College for a pair of road games on Feb 4 and 5th
