Female Athlete of the Week – Miranda Ross, Women’s Basketball
Miranda Ross of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been selected as this week’s female athlete of the week. Ross was the Knights best player during her team’s disappointing 63-48 loss to the visiting Fanshawe Falcons on November 20th.
The fifth-year team captain has been enjoying a fantastic all-around season for the Knights. The six-foot-one forward is averaging 9.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and an OCAA leading 2.8 blocks per game. The former Eden High School Flyer added to her impressive totals against Falcons finishing with 11 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.
Ross, who is a two-time recipient of the Niagara College women’s basketball leadership award, is also taking the lead role in coordinating the second annual Niagara Knights holiday toy drive being held from November 23rd to December 4th. Last year’s toy drive saw the Knights collect over 200 toys for local families.
Male Athlete of the Week – Marako Lundy, Men’s Basketball
Marako Lundy of the Niagara College men’s basketball program has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. Lundy has been an offensive catalyst for the Knights in 2015, helping lead the team to a record and 5-1 and a top-ten position in the CCAA national rankings.
The six-foot-four small forward brings the Knights athleticism, experience, and roster flexibility with his ability to effectively produce from both the perimeter and around the basket. The Nassau, Bahamas native is averaging 18.6 points and 5.2 rebounds-per-game this season. He was recently named one of the top-10 fourth-year players in the CCAA by the Canadian basketball website North Pole Hoops.
During the Knights’ 83-66 victory over Fanshawe Falcons on November 20th, Lundy finished with a game high 21 points while also adding three steals, and two rebounds.
Lundy and the rest of the Niagara College men’s basketball program will return to action on Saturday, November 28th when the team hosts the 5-1 Lambton Lions. Tip-off is set for 1:00pm.
