SARNIA/WINDSOR: The Knights Men's Basketball team travelled to Sarnia on Friday evening and Windsor on Saturday for a double header against the Lambton Lions and the St. Clair Saints.
The Knights got off to a slow start on Friday evening against the Lions, scoring only 10 points in the 1st quarter, but were able to figure something out in the break between quarters coming back to score 24 points in the 2nd quarter. Unfortunately, this momentum did not carry forward as the Knights ultimately lost 57-61 in this low-scoring game.
The starting five were the main contributors in this one, combining for 48 of the team's 57 points. Khayden Stewart led the team with 17 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 1 block. He was followed closely by Skylar Samuel who added 16 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block. Bach Yiech came off the bench to play 24 minutes and contributed 9 points and 13 rebounds.
The Knights needed to rebound quickly as they prepared for the next day's match against the St. Clair Saints at the South Campus Sportsplex in Windsor. Saturday's matchup did not go to plan as the Knights found themselves trailing early and never able to close the gap losing 102-70 to a strong St. Clair team.
First year forward Isiah Panom came all the way from Medicine Hat, Alberta to score 18 points along with 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. He was one of 5 Knights to score in the double digits, but the Knights' defence could not contain the Saints' offence as they scored more than 30 points in multiple quarters.
The Knights have another quick turnaround as they travel to Ancaster on Wednesday evening to take on the Redeemer Royals with tipoff scheduled for 6pm. They will then return home to play their final game of the first half on Saturday at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre. Tipoff for that one is scheduled for 3pm against the Fanshawe Falcons.
