Knights look to bounce back

Knights look to bounce back

October 3, 2024

KITCHENER, ON: Your Niagara Knights (2-5-1) took a trip up to Kitchener to take on the Conestoga Condors (4-2-1) in an evening affair which saw plenty of ups and downs.  Unfortunately, the Knights came away with a 4-2 loss.

Going down early in the match, the Knights had to claw back the entire night.  Seeing the Condors take a 2-0 lead early, Kyle Hannon stole a pass and calmly positioned the ball into the back of the net in extra time during the 1st half, bringing the Knights back within a goal and giving the team some life going into the half.  Regrettably, the 2nd half was a repeat of the first half that saw the Condors control the pitch as the two teams went back and forth scoring goals.  Alex Marrese scored in the 78th minute to bring the Knights back within a goal but ultimately took the loss in the end.

"Tonight was frustrating" Frank DeChellis, head coach of the Knights began discussing.  "We scored two beautiful goals and sloppy man-marking caused three preventable goals against us."  DeChellis continued to say that "the guys worked so hard and created good chances, but soccer is a game of moments and we needed to turn those moments into goals."  Knights' goal scorer, Hannon, commented that it was a "hard fought game – we were clinical in the attacking third and it was a great goal by Marrese.  A few lapses defensively cost us, but overall it was a great game and a building block moving forward."

The Knights will take some much-needed rest to recover before taking on the Mohawk Mountaineers (1-5-1) at home on October 9th at 8pm.  The Knights will be celebrating some of their student-athletes during their final home game at Seniors Night, when they host at Youngs Sportsplex.
