RECAP: Women's basketball lose to Fanshawe

Friday, November 20th saw the Niagara College women's basketball program drop a disappointing 63-48 home game to the visiting Fanshawe Falcons.  The loss sees the Knights slip to 4-2 on the season and into fourth place in the highly competitive OCAA West Division.

"It was a disappointing game" said Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Mike Beccaria. "Especially after the way we started, tonight was not a good performance."

The Knights dominated the opening minutes of the game. Leading by as many as 13 points at the halfway mark of the second quarter. A string mental lapses and turnovers by Niagara in the closing minutes of first half saw the Knights carry just a 33-32 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break the Falcons took over the game. The Knight managed just 15 second half points, and never seemed to find their offensive rhythm. Turnovers proved the difference in the affair as Fanshawe recorded a staggering 27 points off turnovers, while the Knights managed just 2.

The Knights we led offensively by second-year forward Courtney McPherson. The Welland native, and reigning OCAA Rookie of the Year finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Both totals were game highs. Team captain Miranda Ross (St. Catharines) finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, will also adding four blocks to her OCAA leading total.

The Knights will look to rebound when the team travels to Etobicoke on Wednesday, November 25th to take on the undefeated Humber Hawks. The team will return to the Welland campus athletic centre on Saturday, November 28th when they host the Lambton Lions at 1:00pm.
