WELLAND, ON: The Niagara College women's volleyball team (1-0) welcomed the Redeemer Royals (0-1) to the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus over the weekend, winning 3-0 in straight sets (set scores were 25-16, 25-12 and 25-13).
The Knights were hot right out of the gate and set the tone early. Montanna Taylor, a 5th year Knight, finished the contest off with 22 assists, 11 digs, 9 points, 2 blocks, 1 service ace and a 75% hitting efficiency as she led the charge for the Knights. Sam Cormier, a member of the 2023-2024 OCAA West division All-Rookie team, contributed 12 points, 4 service aces and 3 blocks of her own. Abbey Gooder was also back to peak form as she helped the Knights to victory with 10 points, 4 digs and 2 blocks.
When asked about the match, head coach Steve Stone stated "I thought the ladies played a flawless and complete game today – starting from the service line and putting constant pressure on Redeemer with strategic attacks." Stone continued on to say "our blocking and defence were really good and it allowed us to transition to a good offence and hit efficiently."
The Knights will travel up the QEW to take on the Conestoga Condors (0-1) Wednesday evening at 6pm, as they hope to start the season 2-0.
