Successful ‘Senior Night’ for the Knights

WELLAND, ON: The Niagara Knights women's volleyball team (10-5) hosted the
Conestoga Condors (5-11) Wednesday evening as the Knights celebrated their
graduating student-athletes. Fans went home happy after witnessing the Knights
sweep the Condors 3-0 with set scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-15.
The evening started off with seniors Hannah Cowie, Natalie Little and Montanna Taylor
being honoured for their time in a Knights uniform, as they get set to graduate at the
end of this season. Cowie played 3 seasons with the Knights and is graduating from
the Broadcasting – Radio, Television and Film (Radio and TV Presentation) program.
Little, a member of the Knights for only a year, graduates from the Exercise Science for
Health and Performance program. Taylor, the 5-year veteran, leaves Niagara College
with a certificate in Pre-Health Sciences, a diploma from the Paramedic program and is
working towards another diploma in Business.
The Knights started off the match trading points with the Condors before going on a 4-
point run and never looking back, winning the 1 st set by a decisive 10 points. The 2 nd set
saw the Condors try to fight back and equalize the game however, Cowie had other
plans going on an early 3-point run and the Knights eventually closing the door on the
Condors, taking the 2 nd and 3 rd sets. Aja Zambiasi, the 1 st year outside hitter from
Hamilton, Ontario, led the Knights in points accumulating 11 on 5 kills and chipping in 11
digs, 4 service aces and 2 blocks. The trio of seniors combined for 25 points on 19 kills,
22 assists, 20 digs, 3 blocks and 3 service aces.
Head coach of the Knights, Steve Stone, appeared to be pleased with the results of the
game and said, "I'm happy the ladies were able to secure the victory tonight, especially
with us celebrating our seniors." Stone continued to say, "we're going to be taking the
next couple of days to get healthy and prepare for a tough game against the Saints."
The Knights take to the court Saturday afternoon, in their last home game of the
season, against the St. Clair Saints (13-2) at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the
Welland Campus - the game is scheduled to start at 1:00pm. Come on out and cheer
your Knights onto victory!
