ANCASTER, ON: On Wednesday, November 13th, the Niagara Knights women's volleyball team (5-2) took on Redeemer University (3-4) at the home of the Royals. A tightly contested match from start to finish ended up being a 3-0 sweep for the Knights. Set scores were 28-26, 25-20 and 25-20.
Much of the 1st set found the Knights fighting from behind as they tried to slow down the Royals attack and claw their way back into the game. With the Knights trailing by 2 and the Royals on set-point, Tess Kelly stepped up to the service line and gave back-to-back service aces to bring the Knights right back into the game. A few plays later, the Knights ended up taking a 1-0 set lead, winning 28-26. The Knights put it on cruise control the rest of the night, ultimately winning in straight sets and taking the season match-up with the Royals, 2-0. 2nd year players, Natalie Little and Sam Cormier, combined for 24 points on 14 kills, 13 digs, 9 blocks, 2 assists and 1 service ace. 5th year setter, Montanna Taylor, followed close behind with 11 points of her own on 5 kills, 23 assists, 5 digs, 4 blocks and 2 service aces.
"We knew playing the Royals at Redeemer is always different that playing them in our gym" Steve Stone, head coach of the Knights, began expressing when asked about the match. "The girls came ready to play and were able to execute, keeping things simple and under control." When asked about the upcoming match against the St. Clair Saints on the weekend, Stone responded by simply stating "we'll take a day to rest but we will be ready."
The Knights, currently ranked 4th in the OCAA West, travel again this weekend in preparation of their game against the 3rd place St. Clair Saints (6-0) on Sunday, November 17th at 3:00pm.
